Hi Bettie,

I agree that Queen of Dragons wasn't quite as great as the other two, but I still liked it.

And since I posted here, I've reviewd Briggs' "Alpha and Omega" novella and the upcoming Cry Wolf. I can't seem to stop pimping them!

Thanks everyone for the fab rec's. The bookstore was out of the first book in Patricia Briggs' series, but I did buy a copy of the first in Carrie Vaughn's "Kitty" series (and I picked up the second yesterday :D ) I also picked up my copy of Delicious from the lovely, talented, and gracious Ms. Sherry Thomas in Texas.

I enjoyed both books immensely, though I didn't do as much reading as I thought I would because I spent a lot of time looking at the scenery. Texas and Arizona were just beautiful--I'll post more on the trip overall when I get a chance to upload my pics.

Hi Kate! I haven't read Rothfuss, but I have read Threshold--it ate one of my weekends a year or two ago, and I've been wary of Douglass' big books ever since (I just don't have that kind of time!)

Hi Janine! I lurve Shana Abe's books--especially the two "Thief" books. Queen of Dragons wasn't quite the book I'd hoped it would be, but I am still a loyal fan.

I don't know if you are back from your trip yet, but I've fallen in love with Patricia Briggs' new Alpha and Omega werewolf series. The series starts with Brigg's novella "Alpha and Omega" which can be found in the anthology On the Prowl, and continues in Cry Wolf, which will come out at the end of the month. There are two more books to come after that.

In a whole other category of paranormals, I also love Shana Abe's drakon series. The Smoke Thief, The Dream Thief and Queen of Dragons. One or two more books in the works.

I'll stop there but could probably give you a list an arm long if you want one.

Have you ever read Dan Simmons? I love the Hyperion tetralogy, especially the last two, which is a lovely, lovely love story.

And what are you doing in Beaumont TX w/o stopping on the way to see me? I'm just one hour north of I-10, you know? And that way, on your way back to CA, you'd have Delicious to read.

Thanks everyone! That's quite a list. I've been meaning to read Patricia Briggs--a ton of people have sworn up and down that she's the shit--but she slipped my mind, so thanks for the timely reminder, Ann and Angelle.

Amie, I've been on the fence about Carrie Vaugn (I'm always wary starting a new series) but I just looked her up again on Amazon and noticed that her second book is called Kitty Goes to Washington--hee! Anyone who nods to "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" is all right by me.

Thanks Shiloh and Michelle - both Nancy Haddock and Christine Warren are completely new to me. I'll check them out.

Angelle, I haven't read the latest Carey book, and I've been trying to forget it's out there until the one I have on hold at the library comes in ;)

For historicals -- how about Elizabeth Hoyt?

And have you read the latest Jacqueline Carey?

Anything by Jeri Smith-Ready. Wicked Game is a good place to start.

Anything by Patricia Briggs, the first Mercy Thompson book is a good place to start. That's Moon Called.

Driven and Hidden by Eve Kenin.

The Lily and Rule books by Eileen Wilks also kick total ass.
